Library Week at Pelangi

Library Week was a Student Action Team (S.A.T.) initiative and it was a resounding success. The S.A.T. asked families within the school community to donate books to the school library during the week of the 16th-20th September and set a target to collect 200 books. Books were collected in each class and at the end of the week all donated books were brought to the library to be counted. In the end the number of books collected was over 340, far exceeding our target!  Thank you to all families who donated books to the school library. Each book will be shared and appreciated by all who borrow from our library.

Apart from the book donation drive, Library Week included a variety of fun activities. There was a week long Bananagram tournament held in the school warung during break times, with Class 4 student Lok coming out as the overall Bananagram Champion for 2019. Well done Lok. Keep making words!!

PSST! the Pelangi School Spelling Team regrouped for the new academic year and had fun together spelling and broadening their vocabulary.  The team will meet each Friday in the library at lunchtime. The team are preparing for some upcoming spelling bee competitions during October. Good luck to PSST!

Pelangi School’s Library Assistant Club (L.A.C.) was established during Library Week. An enthusiastic group of students volunteer their break times to be Library Assistants, helping our Librarian Ibu Iluh out with jobs in the library. Thank you Library Assistants!

Throughout the week our school welcomed guest authors and storytellers including Francois Keyser, author of the Junglies series; Little Big Deals health and wellbeing books and podcasts for young people by Dr. Leith and Khan Wilson; Little Bookworms online storytelling resource by our very own TKB teacher, Ibu Ari Laksemi; BASABALI, sharing Balinese culture and language books, and the Super Funky Artists mask and puppet dancers, who entertained our Early Years students in a special assembly, along with Pak Khan’s puppet story re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood.

Apart from finishing the week happy with the success of library week and the amazing amount of books donated, Pelangi School also had the pleasure of a Friday afternoon visit from our friends at BAWA who brought along puppies for fostering or adoption. We are happy to say that some lucky puppies went home to new families that day.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and supported Library Week this year.
