Sampah Puppet making and Short Filming Workshops.

During the extended restriction period affected by COVID19 a small group of Pelangi School and PEEP Students gathered to make Sampah Puppets, puppets made from trash/rubbish.

Led by the Super Funky Artists, comprising of Pelangi School teachers, the workshops not only drew attention to recycling but also gave the children a chance to express their feelings and emotions about their experience of the COVID19 situation.
Participants made ‘Banraku’ puppets, a puppet type originating from Japan that requires at least two puppeteers to operate. They also made mini-marionettes and larger stick puppets.

Students also performed with the puppets to make short films. The films were shot on set in the Super Funky Studio and in the nearby picturesque rice fields. In particular, the first film ‘COVID Farmer’, using the Banraku puppets, focused on Balinese lifestyle during the COVID isolation period.

It is hoped that more Sampah Puppet workshops will be offered in the future.
